VENICE
DAYS 8 - 9
We traveled through the Alps in the direction of Venice, which is known for its annual masquerade ball. We were treated to a personal tour of a mask making shop where we learned not only how they are made, but of the history and meaning behind the various masks. It was interesting to learn the symbolism behind each one of the masks.

After our group dinner of seafood pasta, black ink pasta, fried crawdads and calamari, we were treated to an evening gondola ride through the narrow canals between all the streets of Venice.
Most impressive was Saint Mark's Basilica in the square. Not only were there so many people enjoying the live music outside many of the restaurants, but there were also hundreds of pigeons enjoying the crumbs left behind.
