ROME
DAYS 12 - 13
Today we were en route to Rome just as the son was geting up, pasing numerous olive orchards along the way. We drove through the Reggello area, past Umbria and Orte until we arrived in Rome, where everyone always hopes to see the Pope at Vatican City.
Unfortunately we learned he was out of town during our trip, but we did get to see the beautiful golden ceilings and artwork in St. Peter's Basilica, and we enjoyed the beauty of the Sistine Chapel. The Sistine Chapel is where the Cardinals take their vote of who should be the next Pope!

I had the opportunity to visit the Vatican City a few years ago and it was fun to be back here for a second time. The Basilica, home to Michelangelo's Pieta, will always amaze anyone with its beauty.
In the small square surrounded by local markets and enjoyed by numerous tourists, you have a beautiful front view of the Pantheon. We were one of the many who got to go inside and see its true beauty. We observed a small religious service happening in the front. And above you was the oculus in the ceiling letting in enough light for the room to be flooded with the sun rays. The Pantheon is actually a precise sundial and at noon the streaming sun hits the entryway. Amazing.
